The Thing I Hate Most About Grant Revisions

So, you were just over payline and are sure your revised NIH grant is going to get funded. You prepare the revised proposal way ahead of time, being careful to address the helpful comments as thoroughly as possible and adding in new supporting data. You obsessively click eRA Commons after study section in anticipation of your single digit percentile. Then, the score comes up, and it is WORSE. New reviewers, different criticisms, dead grant. Yes, it has happened again. There should be some sort of law that requires revised grants to go to the same reviewers (similar to manuscripts).
